Thesis defense of Matteo Castiello

On April 25, 2023, Matteo Castiello successfully defended his thesis entitled "Production of P(3HB-co-3HV) in an open two-stage continuous reactor: influence of the carbon source on microbial selection and accumulation of the biopolymer". This thesis was carried out within the TBI Laboratory at INSA Toulouse and within the framework of the ANR LOOP4PACK. The jury was composed of the two reviewers, Patrick DABERT (OPAALE, Rennes) and Catherine BEAL [...]

LOOP4PACK’s 1st scientific paper has been published in Process Biochemistry!

As part of Coline Perdrier's thesis, the first scientific article from the LOOP4PACK project has been published in Process Biochemistry! It is entitled "Impact of overflow vs. limitation of propionic acid on poly(3-hydroxybutyrate-co-3-hydroxyvalerate) biosynthesis". This article investigated the impact of carbon-limiting vs. carbon-overflow conditions thanks to fed-batch cultures, with continuous or sequential feeding of propionic acid as the sole carbon source, and phosphorus deficiency conditions. In this line, [...]

Effect of carbon source and P limiting level on microbial selection of PHA overproducers Auteurs : Laetitia Cavaillé, Sandrine Paissé, Matteo Castiello, Anne-Sophie Lepeuple, Claire Dumas, Guillermina Hernandez-Raquet, and Etienne Paul (paul@insa-toulouse.fr) Polyhydroxyalkanoates (PHA) are very attractive molecules because of their biodegradability and their industrial benefits. PHA production can be done using mixed microbial cultures, which lowers production costs and environmental impacts. However, these cultures must be enriched in [...]
